Today is an important day in the history of sanitation globally.In an unprecedented event

held today in Antananarivo,Madagascar's top political leadership led by the Honourable

President Hery Rajaonarimampianina, together with the Prime Minister Mr.Roger Kolo,

involving key ministers such as the Minister of Water, Dr. Johanlta Ndahimananjara,

pledged strong political will and ownership in making Madagascar completely ODF by 2018.  IMG_1420(2)

During the event, attended by government officials, non-government organisations, community members and key international sanitation actors, the Prime Minister acknowledged the tremendous success that the country has achieved with CLTS implementation, which has seen more than 9000 ODF communities emerge over the last three and a half years in Madagascar.

The government’s dedication towards the cause of eliminating open defecation in Madagascar was demonstrated by the signing of a pledge in which the officials from key government ministries committed to work together to take forward the remarkable work done thus far in achieving ODF regions in the country. In his speech, the Prime Minister made an appeal to all the citizens of Madagascar to liberate themselves from the curse of open defecation and take control of their lives without any subsidy. The Prime Minister also acknowledged the commendable contribution made by Natural Leaders in scaling up CLTS to different regions in the country and congratulated them on their hard work and success.
